Club Umpire Workshop

The Ulster Umpires Association are keen to support and develop umpires throughout the province and have put together a workshop for those who are currently umpiring or are interested in becoming club/school umpires.

The purpose of the workshop is to offer support and guidance to all club and school umpires, no matter at what level, in order to assist, develop their skills, improve confidence, and attain consistency in decision making and rules interpretation.

The format for the workshop will be as follows:-

  1. Introduction

  2. Pre-match preparation

  3. Areas of control & Positioning – Open play/Penalty Corners/Penalty Strokes.

  4. Communication and control – Cards, Signals, Verbal, where to send suspended players.

  5. Game Management - Players/Benches/Spectators.

  6. Identifying and explaining offences

  7. Areas of Difficulty - self pass, free hits, aerials, 5 metres, obstruction, etc

  8. Code of Conduct

  9. Question and Answer session


*** You will be expected to have a basic knowledge of the rules of hockey.  This is NOT a rules test.  However rules interpretations will be discussed, along with club umpire support.

Workshop date: Monday 18th November 7.00pm-9.30pm
