Chalk Carving & Cave Painting

Take a walk into history on this Wild Day inspired by Stone Age art! You’ll get to make your own paints from natural pigments, try your hand at chalk carving, and create a huge cave painting together.

Our woodland site is set in the Chiltern Hills, which are part of a huge chalk system formed many million years ago. Come with us to our secret chalk quarry and find your own block of chalk to carve! Our experienced instructors will show you how to shape it but keep your fingers safe.

Back at base camp, we’ll need your help to make a cave shelter big enough for everyone. We’ll also light some fires to keep us warm, and show you how to make natural paints with charcoal, chalk, and earth. Finally, you’ll get to use your paints to decorate your cave, and create a piece of art together.

Please wear something you don’t mind getting dirty!
