Secondary Education in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia

This session will give an in-depth overview of the structure of the education systems of Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia with a focus on secondary education.

Key qualifications covered in the session include:

  • Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE)

  • Hong Kong bridging programmes such as Foundation Diploma and Diploma Yi Jin

  • Singaporean N levels, O levels and A levels

  • SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) (Malaysia Certificate of Education), STPM (Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia) (Malaysia Higher School Certificate), UEC (Unified Examination Certificate), and Malaysian Foundation and Matriculation programmes.

The session includes practical guidelines and participatory activities to support the interpretation and understanding of educational documentation from these countries, including opportunity to explore our online resources to support admissions decisions for students from these education systems.

Target Audience

This course is recommended for university and college staff involved with entry to undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The course will also be useful to people from professional bodies, nationality & immigration solicitors, recruiters, work permit and visa agencies, careers guidance, and refugee and asylum seekers advisers.

Objectives

The key objectives of the training are to:

  • Be able to identify key qualifications from the secondary education systems of Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia

  • Be able to recognise significant features of documentation for key qualifications from the three education systems

  • Gain a better understanding of how our online resources can support admissions decisions for students from Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia.
