Advanced international student admissions (FULLY BOOKED)

Overview

Post-COVID, many HEIs are seeing unprecedented volumes of international student applications but also significant changes in the nature of those applications, such as a reduction in previously strong markets and an increase in others less strong prior to the pandemic. The impact of COVID assessment changes and English language home tests have also shifted the admissions landscape.

This session is aimed at those more experienced in admissions. This may include those involved in management positions, or Deputy or Heads of Admissions roles. Others dealing with the logistics around handling large application volumes, training staff, and wider admissions strategy would also find the session useful.

The session will cover strategic and process-based approaches to admissions with a focus on your own institution experience, challenges that have arisen, and solutions to some of the main issues that you and your teams are facing.

We anticipate an EdTech provider will also contribute to this session to discuss how technology can support the admissions process and the challenge of managing large volumes, and an English language test provider will provide insight into the post-COVID English language landscape.

Objectives

  • To identify key factors that have impacted admissions including higher volumes, changes in markets and the implications around these changes
  • To provide opportunity to consider your institution’s current admissions strategy and processes and identify any potential areas of improvement
  • To discuss challenges that you face and potential efficiencies which can be gained
  • To outline an approach to training admissions staff by identifying key needs and team expertise levels.

For those with less experience, it may be useful to consider our Introduction to Admissions session.
