Formed in 1892, The English Lacrosse Association is the national governing body for lacrosse in England. Lacrosse has seen unprecedented growth over the last 5 years with player numbers increasing by over 100% during this time.
BACKGROUND
During early 2015 it became clear that when DCMS released their Sporting Strategy its contents would directly impact how English Lacrosse accessed funding and the level of funding available. Mark Coups, English Lacrosse’s CEO, recently explained how they prepared for the implementation of the strategy and what impact this has had for the sport.
THE CHALLENGE
DCMS’ Sporting Strategy is putting less emphasis on NGBs and more on the wider sporting structure and therefore most, if not all, NGBs need to become more financially sustainable.
As a result there are significant changes going on within English Lacrosse to confront these funding challenges and ensure we continue to meet our ambitious growth targets. One key initiative is moving from club based registrations to an individual membership model as this enables us to generate additional revenue through memberships fees and ensures that the people involved in lacrosse help contribute to the running of the sport.
THE SOLUTION
English Lacrosse implemented their Participant solution in 2015 to manage the registration process and collect online payments is a significant development that will place the sport and Governing Body in a more stable, sustainable position to achieve further growth.
Significantly, English Lacrosse will know all their players, officials, coaches and volunteers are and can now communicate with them on a 1:1 basis which opens up a whole range of marketing and development opportunities.
The English Lacrosse Participant solution handles the customer data, registrations and payments for all memberships, courses, tournaments, holiday camps and match ticket sales. The solution provides access to all clubs, providing a shared opportunity to grow the Sport together and significantly reducing paper work administration.
WHAT MARK COUPS, THE CEO SAYS,
‘Launching our Participant solution has been a great success. The team at Participant supported us as we successfully moved from our previous supplier and we are confident that the new system will play a central role in enabling English Lacrosse to drive our sport forward and ensure we remain in a strong sustainable position moving forwards”
