British Judo Association Technical Grading Syllabus Book

It is a requirement of the British Judo Association grading syllabus, that candidates of all ages have knowledge of and be able to demonstrate a variety of judo techniques. This book is a photographic guide and is intended to act as a memory aid and to assist candidates in preparing for their grading examinations.

For ease of understanding Tori is always in white in the demonstrations throughout this book and Uke is in the blue judogi.

This syllabus demonstrates the basics principles of body placement and the most effective grip to initially make the technique work. Some techniques will have slight variations of grip and body placement, these should still be recognised by BJA Examiners.

English translations of the names of the Japanese techniques are provided to assist candidates. Techniques are also listed in alphabetical (Japanese) order to assist candidates.
