Southern Area Technical Dan Grade Theory Course

A Technical Dan grade theory course for players 1st Kyu to 4th Dan  will take place on Saturday 4th March 2023 and Sunday 5th March 2023 at Croydon Judo Club. The course will be run by Dave Stanley, 7th Dan – Senior Examiner, John Malkinson, 5th Dan – Senior Examiner, Kata Examiner and James Lewis, 3rd Dan – Trainee Senior Examiner 

10:00 to 17:00 both days – booking-in 0930
£30.00 per day (Saturday or Sunday), or £50.00 for both days

Closing date for online registration: Tuesday 28th February 2023. No bookings will be taken after this date.

This practical mat-based course is suitable for players graded 1st Kyu to 4th Dan preparing for technical and competitive Dan grade theory assessment. Technical theory examinations (and competitive skills examinations as required) will be conducted during the course. 

The course fee includes the examination; anyone preferring to be examined at a later date may make suitable arrangements with the examiners. 

Please bring a pen and notebook, zori and a packed lunch. Tea and coffee will be available. Food is also available for purchase locally (5 min walk from the venue). 

Course content 

SATURDAY
• Section 1 Nage-waza single techniques
• Section 2 Ne-waza single techniques
• Section 3 Renzoku-waza combinations

SUNDAY
• Section 4 Renraku-waza combinations
• Section 5 Kaeshi-waza counters
• Section 6 Ne-waza combinations counters
• Section 10 Kokusai-shiai-waza 

Those attending the course may be examined on any or all of the above sections of the technical Dan grade theory. 

Anyone wishing to be examined on Section 7 Nage-no-kata, Section 8 Katame-no-kata and/or Section 9 Gonosen-no-kata should have completed some preparation in advance. These sections will not be covered during the course, but technical advice and feedback will be offered for those wishing to be examined on any kata.
