Introduction:

This course has been developed specifically for slowpitch softball coaches looking for an introduction to developing pitchers, using the techniques and methodology employed by Great Britain Slowpitch.

Who is it suitable for?

  • Coaches who wish to get an understanding of what drills, teaching methods and rationale Great Britain Slowpitch uses when developing slowpitch softball pitchers.
  • Coaches who want to share knowledge in a practical environment.
  • Softball coaches who wish to become specialist slowpitch pitching coaches.

What are the pre-requisites?

  • Learners must be a minimum of 16 years old.
  • It is advised that very inexperienced coaches should take either 'The Activator Award' or 'Drills for Beginner Coaches - CPD Clinic'.
  • Coaches working towards their 'Coach Award - Level 2' must take either this course or one of the other pitching CPD clinics in order complete their award.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Explain the basic mechanics of the slowpitch pitching delivery.
  • Teach forward spin, reverse spin and knuckle ball
  • Identify and correct common mistakes in the pitching delivery. 
  • Utilise drills to develop the pitchers you work with.

Why do this course?

  • The course will give you practical ideas on how to work with and improve the pitchers you coach.
  • The course will give you a basic understanding of what Great Britain Slowpitch looks for and implements when developing slowpitch softball pitchers.
  • Through this course, you will learn how to improve your players’ pitching technique and how to safely introduce beginners to slowpitch pitching.


Cancellations

  • Please be aware that we need to achieve a minimum requirement of learners to be able to confirm the course is going ahead.
  • We aim to communicate a cancellation with learners 7-14 days in advance of the course date.

  • If you cancel within 7 days or fail to attend the course without good reason (at the sole discretion of Sport Structures), the full fee will apply.
  • If you cancel within 14 days of the qualification then 50% of cost will be returned to you.
  • Should you wish to transfer onto an alternative course within 7 days of the course start date, a £20 administration fee will apply.
  • Once payment and the application form is returned, confirmation of course details will be sent 7 days prior to the course.
  • If Sport Structures cancels the course, you will automatically be booked onto the next available course date. 
  • We advise that accommodation / train tickets should not be booked until a course confirmation letter is received or a Sport Structures member of staff confirms that the course is definitely going ahead as we will not refund expenses incurred
  • In the event of a tutor not being able to tutor a course at short notice due to an emergency, we will contact you to inform you and re-organise the course. 
  • The information provided by the applicant will be stored on the Sport Structures CIC Database and held in accordance with the Data Protecting Act 1998.
